Scenario:
It's 2 o'clock in the morning or it's a Sunday afternoon. Your
eye is red and it hurts like crazy. You are not sure if it's a
scratch, pink eye, an infection, your contact lens, etc. The local
hospital Emergency Room never has an eye doctor on staff. They
will look at your eye and tell you to see your eye doctor the
next day.
Dr. Collazo provides her patients with 24-hour emergency eye
services. Dr. Collazo is board certified in the treatment of eye
disease. Our office number is (908) 475-4064.
First Aid for the Eyes:
Chemical Burn - Irrigate the eye with lots of sterile water. However
if nonsterile water is the only water available it should be used.
Call the office immediately.
Foreign Object - Wash out eye with eyewash, saline solution,
or water. If you are not sure if the object was washed our completely
or if your eye feels scratchy, call the
office.
Never self-treat a red eye especially if you are a contact lens
wearer. A garden variety "pink eye" is more severe and
needs to be treated with different medical therapies for the contact
lens user. Discontinue contact lens wear immediately and call
the office.
If you have a "red eye", do not use any of those drops
that "take the red out". These drops actually work by
constricting the blood vessels. They slow down the healing process
and could inflame your eye further.
If you are unable to reach Dr. Collazo in the event of an eye
emergency or eye trauma, please contact Omni
