A New Jersey native, Dr. Gigette Collazo
has been practicing in New Jersey since 1991. She received her
undergraduate degree from Seton Hall University in 1986. In 1991,
she completed a degree in the visual sciences and graduated from
the Pennsylvania College of Optometry with clinical honors. She
was awarded the Philip Cooper Memorial Scholarship and the New
Jersey Optometric Recognition of Merit.
Dr. Collazo served as Vice President of Omega Epsilon Phi International
Optometric Fraternity. She served as advisor and mission coordinator
for SOSH, a volunteer group providing world-wide vision care.
Dr. Collazo oversaw the training of fourth year optometric interns
for four years in a program affiliated with the Pennsylvania College
of Optometry.
She is a member of the American
Optometric Association, the New
Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians, the Bergen-Passaic
Optometric Society, and Vision
USA, a volunteer program that provides eye care for working
low-income families. She performs many volunteer services including
free vision screenings and lectures to community groups.
As of January 2002, Dr. Collazo was appointed
by the Governor to serve on the New Jersey State Board of Optometry.
In 2005, she was elected the first woman Vice President of the
Board since it was established in 1914.
Dr. Collazo, her husband Edward, and daughter
Emily Constance reside in Belvidere.
