Laser Vision Correction

Dr. Collazo had Lasik surgery in 2002 and enjoys her 20/15 vision every day!!!

Lasik (Laser In-situ Keratomileusis) is an exciting vision correction option for those wishing to decrease all or most of their dependency on glasses and contact lenses. Lasik uses a cool laser beam to gently reshape the curvature of the front surface (cornea) of your eye. Lasik can treat a broad target of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism in people who are at least 18years old, in good health, and have no eye disease. The excimer laser can remove as little as 1/40 of a human cell. This precision leaves the integrity of the eye unchainged.

Dr. Collazo will perform an in-depth Lasik evaluation to determine your candidacy on an individual case. Dr. Collazo will do a thorough medical history, evaluate your eyes for any eye conditions, and check your prescription to determine if it is stable. Once all of the testing is completed and it is determined if you are a candidate, Dr. Collazo will forward your records to the laser eye center's laser eye surgeon.

The Lasik procedure usually takes about 10 minutes per eye to perform. A microkeratome is used to create a protective flap of tissue. this flap is temporarily folded back and computer controlled pulses of cool laser are applied to the inner layers of the conrnea. the inner layers are gently reshaped to duplicate your contact lens or glasses prescription. The flap is closed and heals naturally.

Just like your eyes, not all laser vision correction privoders are the same.
