  • The national InfantSee™ program, dedicated to providing eye examinations to infants, was launched in early June 2005. Early detection of eye conditions is the best way to ensure your child has healthy vision for successful development. This program was designed to make eye and vision care an integral part of infant wellness care and thus improve your child's quality of life. Dr. Collazo is proud to be a member doctor in this program.

  • Three studies show genetic involvement in half of the reported cases of macular degeneration, a disease that can block sight through the center of your eyes leaving only peripheral vision. This could lead to new therapies and earlier detection.   • Do not take betacarotene if you are a smoker. Betacarotene, a form of Vitamin A valuable to the nutrition of your eye, has been shown to increase the risk of lung cancer in smokers. The National Cancer Institute website has some helpful information.

  • Summertime is time for sunglasses! Protect your eyes from harmful glare and UV exposure for your current and continued eye health. Come in and see all of the great sunglass styles available for your needs for summer and at all through the year.

Things to have on hand as you
spend more time outdoors this season:
  • Wrap-around safety goggles
  • Sunglasses with UV-A and UV-B radiation blockers - look for a dark gray tint
  • Wide-brimmed hat
  • Sunscreen lotion formulated for the sensitive skin around your eyes
  • Bottle of eyewash to flush out any foreign matter
  • Lubricating eyedrops for dryness
  • Wear gloves when pulling weeds to prevent contact with poison ivy and other potential irritants and don't rub your eyes!
